Top Cat music game on FlashPlayer on Nexus1

Seb Lee-Delisle

I hate to say it but not many Plug-in Media projects are optimised for low end machines. We usually squeeze every bit of performance out of Flash to fill every part of the screen with crazy 3D, pixels and video!

But! We found one that works really well! And it works well for two reasons :

  1. It doesn’t stretch the processor (unlike our Papervision3D projects like Big and Small and Zingzillas)
  2. All...

Three Important Twitter Conventions and How They Are Used

C&M* > UK Online PR Agency + Social Media Agency + Social SEO Agency

When we’re in Social Media training workshops with our lovely bunch of clients, we often get asked about the numerous Twitter “conventions”, what they mean, how they are used, and when is appropriate to use them. As such, I thought I’d put together a handy guide on these conventions, which may seem second nature to regular tweeters, but double Dutch to the uninitiated.

Recent acquisitions

Victorian Geek

Cometh Up as a FlowerUnfortunately, blogging has taken a back seat recently, what with finishing chapter one of my thesis and giving my inaugural conference paper.  I’m not sure which was more stressful, but hopefully it can only get easier from hereon in.  However, my book buying remains undiminished, and I have a few acquisitions to share with you.  An impromptu visit to Old Spitalfields Market (on the way home f...

Famous Film Quotes In Infographics

SEO Blog & Web Design Blog by Fresh Egg

Infographics are a relatively recent discovery for me, but they’ve become a minor obsession; I always hated bar-graphs and pie charts when I was young, but infographics have so much more creative potential. So this morning I decided to represent a few of my favourite ‘iconic’ film quotes, see if you can guess them all.If [...]

Successful E-Commerce Tips

Qube - CEO School

In short: "you know" that comes with each ad. NUMBER 2: Although it is the least effective, for many, perhaps out of ignorance, is the most tempting, and obviously the difference of existing money and also because it seems the simplest of the two alternatives. Of the two options I recommend only the number 1, and I'll explain why. First and foremost, you can never know whether the data with...

Middle-aged women and workplace perceptions

Freelance Advisor

A very beautiful old lady II by pedrosimoes7A recent survey conducted by Durham Business School and Age with Attitude has explored the attitudes of women of mid-life women in the workplace. The results seem to reveal a mix of personal and professional self-confidence which goes against the typical media stereotypes. However, they also reveal a commonly held belief that they are treated differently and negatively by others as a result of ...

Don't bank on the 'big four'

The Argus | Business news

There have been dire warnings about the future of banking in rural and hard-to-reach areas. The “big four” High Street names have closed many branches. But there is a wave of new kids on the block entering the market. Business editor SAM THOMSON asks if these could step in to fill the gap.

I've got some questions for the Americans....

Peoples Republic of Hove

If the US Senate Committee does come over "to seek answers" about the release of the alleged Lockerbie bomber, I've got some questions of my own for them.

Firstly some background on the 60 military coups in which the US state is implicated over the last century would be nice. Perhaps they could give us the low-down on the merits of replacing democratically elected governments with...

Collective noun for chuggers

Yak & Natter

Sitting in the office at lunchtime, we looked out of the window and saw 4 chuggers standing around the end of Bond Street. I was intrigued about the collective noun, so tweeted:

what’s the collective noun for chuggers? There are 4 of them huddled around a lamp-post at the Bond Street/North Street junction

I got quite a few replies, some via twitter and some via facebook.

Helen suggested:

Hookbox

Simon Willison's Weblog

Hookbox (via). For most web projects, I believe implementing any real-time comet features on a separate stack from the rest of the application makes sense—keep using Rails, Django or PHP for the bulk of the application logic, and offload any WebSocket or Comet requests to a separate stack built on top of something like Node.js, Twisted, EventMachine or Jetty. Hookbox is the best example of...

Mobile app development trends – what languages should you be learning?

Mark Kirby - Mobile Developer

Mobile app development is a minefield, there’s so many different platforms, and different things to consider. I decided now was a good time to run through the market today, as of July 2010 and try to identify what you as a developer should be learning, or what business owners should be looking at. The quick answer by the way – it depends.

What’s out there?

Mobile platforms, languages and SDK’s

canto.js: An Improved HTML5 Canvas API

Simon Willison's Weblog

canto.js: An Improved HTML5 Canvas API (via). Improved is an understatement: canto adds jQuery-style method chaining, the ability to multiple coordinates to e.g. lineTo at once, relative coordinate methods (regular Canvas does everything in terms of absolute coordinates), the ability to use degrees instead of radians, a rounded corner shortcut, a more convenient .revert() method and a simple...

Bought Traffic For Your Website

Qube - CEO School

As we have seen you can get traffic to a website in various ways and through different methods or strategies. This traffic could say that is divided into two types, free traffic and traffic charges. With regard to free trade have already written on the subject, so today we will discuss the second case. While it is possible to "buy" traffic, can give very different results, there is money...
