GPS Gaming with Locomatrix - a showcase of local talent

By Rosie Sherry • Mar 3rd, 2008 • Category: Business

Locomatrix looks like good fun. They have done a grand job in producing a video to explain exactly what it is, but in a nutshell it uses a phone + a GPS system + Locomatrix game(s) to bring games to life. They do this by making you, the player, move about in the real world. Yes, the one with grass, trees, water and apparently a lot more (!).

Locomatrix is still in early days with one game on offer (Fruit Farmer), however there are more coming in the pipeline with 2008 being a year of creating new games by themselves and the opportunity for anyone to contribute with their own games.

Looking into the background of the solution it is really great to see a mixture of local talent being used to create the system. With the inspiration coming from husband and wife team, Richard Vahrman and Moira Nangle, the technology expertise coming from Tom Hume of Future Platforms and the lovely design coming from the famous people at ClearLeft.

LocoMatrix is one to keep an eye on.

  2. I have to provide a small correction here: the mobile product wasn’t a solo effort, it was designed and developed by our crack team here at Future Platforms: Jack Moxley, Doug Hoskins, Bryan Rieger, Thom Hopper, Devi Lozdan, Antony Ribot, Dave Shorter and Neil Skinner. ClearLeft did the excellent identity work (which we adapted for the mobile UI) and designed the web site.

  3. I really think this project will go places. All the best guys
